Ein Drehpotentiometer (Pot) ist ein Gerät mit drei Anschlüssen, das ein Widerstandselement und einen Drehkontakt verwendet, um einen einstellbaren Spannungsteiler zu bilden. Wenn nur zwei Anschlüsse verwendet werden, ein Ende des Elements und der einstellbare Kontakt, fungiert es als variabler Widerstand oder Rheostat. Potentiometer werden nach dem Widerstandswert des Elements, dem Drehgrad/der Anzahl der Umdrehungen, der linearen oder logarithmischen Verjüngung, der Leistungsabgabe, der Anzahl der gekoppelten Elemente, dem Widerstandsmaterial und der Anschlussart ausgewählt. Einige haben integrierte Schaltkontakte.
