Lötfreie Steckplatinen bieten eine praktische Möglichkeit, elektronische Komponenten in Hobby-, Bildungs- oder Entwicklungskontexten miteinander zu verbinden, ohne dass Löten oder ähnliche Fixierprozesse erforderlich sind. Sie bestehen aus U-förmigen Metallkontakten, die unter einem Lochraster in einem elektrisch isolierenden Gehäuse positioniert sind. Durch die Löcher im Isolator eingeführte Komponentenleitungen und Drahtsegmente sind elektrisch verbunden und werden von den darunter liegenden Kontakten unter Federspannung gehalten. Obwohl sie leicht rekonfigurierbar und daher ideal für Experimente sind, bieten sie keine mechanisch robusten Verbindungen und führen erhebliche parasitäre Schaltungselemente ein, wodurch sie für Hochgeschwindigkeitsschaltungen ungeeignet sind.
